PARKS MAINTENANCE WORKER

DEFINITION:
To maintain all parks, athletic facilities and assigned city properties; to maintain swimming pool, pumps, and equipment; to install, assemble, and maintain all appropriate equipment.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direct supervision from Parks Superintendent.  Exercises no supervision.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Mow, weedeat, and maintain all parks, athletic facilities, and assigned city properties
  • Maintain swimming pool, pumps and equipment; to include adding chemicals, vacuuming, monitoring chlorination system, changing tanks and repair equipment when appropriate
  • Clean restrooms at Whitecotton and Godwin Parks and make necessary repairs
  • Empty all downtown trash barrels; pick up trash and patrol parks for problems or repairs
  • Assemble playground equipment, install new equipment; move and add dirt where needed; plant and care for trees, shrubs, and bushes; upgrade equipment and facilities; paint
  • Check grease, oil and fluid levels and general maintenance of all applicable equipment
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must have working knowledge of:

  • Maintenance and care of lawns, shrubs, trees, and other botanicals
  • Care and repair of parks and recreational equipment
  • Operation of mower, weed eater, trimmer, edger, John Deere and Massey Ferguson tractors
  • Use of minor tools related to maintenance of grounds

Must have ability to:

  • Read, write and follow written and oral instructions
  • Perform physical labor while working outdoors in adverse weather conditions
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING GUIDELINES:
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE:
Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license.

  • Vision required include the ability to adjust focus, close and distant vision
