Maxwell's Tae Kwon Do

Alinda Maxwell of Maxwell’s Tae Kwon Do in Sherman, teaches classes here on Tuesdays.  Ms. Maxwell is a Fifth Degree Black Belt with over 15 years of teaching experience.  Her classes, for ages 5 to adult, focus on self-discipline, self-confidence, self-defense and fitness enhancement. Indoor Walking

The multipurpose room is available for walking from 9:00 AM to 12 Noon.  Note: Walking may be cancelled in the event of building rentals or PARD activities.

Summer Programs

The PARD sponsors summer programs for children in June, July, and August. Programs include a variety of activities such as cooking, art, crafts, games and mini-day camps.

TAAF / PARD Summer Track

The PARD track program is open to children ages 1st grade thru high school seniors. Cost is $25 and meets are held on Saturdays in the north Texas area. Meet dates and locations will be announced in May, 2010.

Recreation Camps

All camps will be conducted Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon.  Each camp will be organized around a central theme, and there will be corresponding art projects, craft projects, games, and snacks each day.  The first two camps of the summer are free.  Enrollment in each camp is limited, so registration is necessary.    Registration form required.

Youth Volleyball and Soccer

Registration for the youth recreational Soccer and Volleyball seasons will begin in August. Registration deadline for both leagues is Friday, August 14, 2009 at 5:00 PM. Games are expected to begin in September and will also be announced here. Details for each league are outlined below:

Swimming Lesson Staff

Brief Description of Swimming Classes 

Level I:  Water Exploration (ages 4 & up)

Helps students feel comfortable in the water.  Safety rules, buddy system, supported floating and kicking, bubble blowing, submerging face in water.

 

Level II:  Primary Skills

Float and recover without support, locomotion skills, and basic rescue skills.

 

Level III:  Stroke Readiness

Coordinates front crawl and back crawl.  Introduces elementary backstroke and treading water.  Learn to dive from side of pool.  Safety skills.

 

Level IV:  Stroke Development

Increased endurance and distance in familiar strokes.  Introduces breaststroke and sidestroke and turning at a wall.

 

Level V:  Stroke Refinement

Refinement of key strokes, introduces butterfly, open turns, the feet-first surface dive, and springboard diving.

 

Level VI:  Swimming and Skill Proficiency

Polishes strokes over greater distances.  Introduces additional turns as well as the pike and tuck surface dives.  Prepares students to participate on swim teams and in advance courses such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training.

 

IPAP:  Infant and Preschool Aquatics Program

Ages 6 months to 3 years (with parent or other adult accompanying child in water).  Helps child become comfortable in and around the water so they will be ready to learn to swim at 4 years.  Children progress at their own rates through the skills in the program.

 

Guardstart:  Lifeguarding Tomorrow

A jumpstart into lifeguarding for kids 11-14 who have completed at least Level IV.  Learn accident prevention, develop swimming skills, gain understanding of basic emergency response techniques, and learn leadership skills.

Swimming Pool Quick Facts

No regular diapers are allowed in the pool—only “Little Swimmers” or contained swimsuits only.

Private swim lessons are available.  Please see pool office for details.

Ten minutes each hour of public swim is set aside for a safety break for ages 15 and under.

Children under 8 MUST be accompanied by an adult.

Learn the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to emergencies in and around an aquatic environment.  CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid are included in the course.  Students must attend all classes.  All City of Whitesboro lifeguards are Red Cross certified.  Completion of course does not guarantee employment with the City of Whitesboro.  Students must be 15 years old and pass a water pre-test to take the class. 

Pre-test fee:  $25.00
Class fee:  $125.00
